Parking: park along the street
Cost: free
Age Range: supported sitter – 10 year
Ground Cover: packed mulch on playground, sand on volleyball court
Features: several distinctive areas to the playground include sand volleyball courts; motorcycle bouncers; fire truck imaginative play area; large O-shaped spinner; large play structure with tunnel, ladders, monkey bars, and 2 slides; 2 big kid swings and 2 baby swings; tall independent spinners
Surrounding Park Area: residential area. Directly across the street is Inman Middle School.
Shade: Slightly shaded in the play structure area. There are several mature trees on the periphery of the play area that lend to shade for the parents that sit down, but for the most part, the playground is sunny and your kids need sunscreen.
Seating: Several benches surround the area.
Stroller/Wheelchair Access: Yes.
Safety: No broken equipment. The volleyball court poses some risks to kids playing in the sand – keep your eye out!
Cons: Since it is directly across the street from the middle school, when school gets out the playground gets busy! Also, this neighborhood is saturated with toddlers, and even in non-peak times the playground feels full. Many times I have seen multiple nannies sitting on the benches not really paying too close attention to the kids they are watching…
Overall Assessment: This is an exceptionally attractive little neighborhood park. As a recent addition to the neighborhood (early 1990s), it has had the advantage of well-thought out planning and professional design. The park benefits from significant plantings and a naturalistic design that includes sinewy pathways and alternating sunny open spaces and cozy, shaded sitting areas. The sand volleyball court is a very unique addition to this play area; literally all times of the year you can see people dressed to play volleyball (quite a bit of eye candy if I might add!). My toddler loves to visit this playground for the fire truck, I literally have to pull him off of it every time!
I love this playground! It seems to have more shade than most playgrounds – at least the lower area with the swings and slides. It also has an outdoor shower for the volleyball players that the toddlers love to play in and is great for making wet sand for sand castles. If you’re looking for a spot to spread out a blanket, there’s a large grassy area that’s great for picnics and birthday parties.
