Parking: on-street parking; church parking is available across the street when not in use by the church
Cost: free
Age Range: all ages
Ground Cover: wood mulch
Features: Two structures and a swing structure. The separate toddler structure has two steering wheels and place for imaginary play. It seems as though there used to be a slide attached to this structure, but it is (sadly) no longer there. The larger structure has two slides, a rainbow climber, a wobbly bridge, a wobbly plank and a ladder climber. There are two baby swings and two big kid swings also.
Surrounding Park Area: small area of greenspace. The entire park seems to consist of maybe two house lots.
Shade: Yes, lots and lots of shade!
Seating: Several benches and a picnic table.
Stroller/Wheelchair Access: No. The playground is below street level and even bringing your stroller down the incline is difficult. I would not recommend wheelchairs at all!
Safety: Since the slide is missing from the separate toddler play area, there is only an open space. Look out for that!
Cons: Mosquitos!
Overall Assessment: As the name indicates, this park is located in a sunken area below street level. It has sloping sides that go down to a flat, open greenspace. I don’t imagine many people frequent this playground as there are several neighborhood playgrounds within walking distance, including the church playground across the street (which is open to the public). It is a nice area to let your kids explore and kick a ball around without fear of it going into the street. It is much much less crowded than the newer and more popular Sidney Marcus Playground just down the street…But, on the flip side, you could definitely set up a nice little party or something in the greenspace, as it is the perfect size for something like that. Not too big and not too small.
