Parking: parking lot along Pegg Rd between playground and tennis court
Cost: free
Age Range: toddler – 10 years
Ground Cover: wood mulch
Features: one large structure featuring curvy slide and racing slide, monkey bars, tic tac toe board, and zip line rail. 4 big kid swings also available.
Surrounding Park Area: A pleasant surprise about this particular park is that a creek runs through it. This is definitely something you don’t see too often in Atlanta! A large bridge overlooks this creek and gives it a nice feel. Two brand new lighted tennis courts and basketball courts are onsite as well. A pavilion is directly adjacent to the playground and bathrooms are available.
Shade: No shade. The pavilions are right next to the playground and they are shaded, but the playground is not shaded at all.
Seating: No benches. You may sit in the pavilions if they are not in use, but seating for adults would be the ground (or the big kid swings if they are available).
Stroller/Wheelchair Access: Up to the playground, but there is no sidewalk around the playground for access.
Safety: No particular safety hazards noted.
Cons: The playground is on the small side and probably could not handle more than 6-7 kids playing on it, especially if there was an adult that needed to be on the play structure for supervision. There are also no baby swings.
Overall Assessment: This is a fairly nice small playground. If I lived in this neighborhood, it would be plenty fine. The playground equipment appears to be fairly new with little wear on the slides or other structures. What really makes this park special, in my opinion, is the creek with the bridge running over it and the lighted tennis and basketball courts. My 2-year-old just loved running back and forth over this bridge! I also visited Brookdale Park on a very mild summer afternoon and there was not a single person on the tennis courts. These courts were in impeccable condition, so if you’re looking to play a little tennis without any pressure, this is the place for you.
