Parking: Free parking in parking lots along Cherokee Ave or Boulevard
Cost: Cost of admission to zoo or free with membership
Age Range: 12 mo (walking) – 10 years
Ground Cover: Wood mulch
Features: 4 person see saw; drums; tic tac toe boards; large structure with two slides (one small, one curved), rock wall, climbing tunnel, and monkey bars; interactive school bus; climbing structure with rock walls and rope wall; bouncy duck
Surrounding Park Area: Inside Zoo Atlanta. This particular playground is in the children’s funzone where there is also a bounce house, a carousel, and a train ride.
Shade: Pretty sunny. Some of the structures have built in shade. There are a few trees that allow for shade, but the majority of the playground is in direct sunlight.
Seating: Multiple benches surrounding the play area.
Stroller/Wheelchair Access: Access up to the playground, but not inside the fence
Safety: The playground is completely closed off by a fence, which is great because your kid can’t wander off into other more exciting areas of the zoo.
Cons: The playground gets very busy and full of kids, especially on field trip days and beautiful spring time weekends. Also, the kids are all ages, so if you have a toddler, they probably will get trampled by at least one older child.
Overall Assessment: The best part about this playground is that the train that goes around the zoo runs right next to the playground. Children run up to the fence and wave to the passengers on the train everytime the train blows its horn. Super fun!
